In today’s post we are going to delve into the restaurant kitchens of Hotel El Duque with the help of our magnificent Chef. Ángel González, has been with us for more than 9 years, began working in the Hotel El Duque kitchen at the end of 2012 and since then has become a reference in our restaurant.

 

At Hotel El Duque we offer our clients a great gastronomic variety. The hotel has a large restaurant with an all-you-can-eat buffet where different themed menus are offered weekly.

 

But we are committed to publicizing the magnificent Canarian gastronomy and its rich food. In addition, we have two bars where you can eat next to our pools and enjoy a quiet and relaxed atmosphere.

Was becoming a chef your dream job or a coincidence?

 

My devotion to cooking began at the age of nine. Being in a boarding school, I signed up for extracurricular cooking classes where we helped Chef Roberto prepare the menu for the other children. The second was my aunt Pilar, who taught me to love cooking while she helped her prepare her homemade food in the family bar that she owned.

 

What are the Canarian dishes that you like to cook the most?

 

Among the favorite and essential dishes of Canarian food I would say: rabbit in salmorejo, ropa vieja, grouper on the back and of course, our wrinkled potatoes with mojo.

 

How would you describe the food at Hotel El Duque?

 

A great gastronomic offer. We offer our clients a great gastronomic variety, in addition to a traditional elaboration in most of our dishes using quality ingredients from the region.

 

What dishes are essential for you?

 

With the unique flavor of typical Canarian food, it will be difficult to choose between a few, but essential would be: roast leg, pork cheeks, grouper (local fish) and wrinkled potatoes with mojo sauce.

 

What would you say to someone who has never been to Hotel El Duque?

 

What are you encouraged to come to our hotel! In addition to our wonderful facilities and incredible location, the gastronomic offer that we offer our clients is magnificent. And that at Hotel El Duque you will be able to discover and enjoy typical Canarian and Spanish food and of course our international dishes.

 

What dishes do you like and why international cuisine?

 

My favorite international dishes are, among many: chicken breast in white wine, kebab, cochinita pibil, orange duck or chicken curry.

 

Also, I like these dishes because they have anecdotes with co-workers throughout my professional career in the kitchen. One of the anecdotes I talk about is with the “curry chicken” dish when I worked with three colleagues of Chinese nationality and none of them prepared it the same. They spent hours arguing every time Asian night played, defending their recipe. I took my own recipe from the three of them and it is the one we make today in our themed night of Asian food in show cooking at Hotel El Duque.
