In the heights of Granadilla de Abona and in the middle of a forest of Canarian pine trees (Pinus canariensis), there is a unique space where volcanic materials capriciously intermingle with the sculptural action of erosion. This natural landscape belongs to the Corona Forestal Natural Park, on the border with the Teide National Park, and is considered an important area of geomorphological, botanical and faunal interest.
The Lunar Landscape of Granadilla de Abona is located on the border with the slopes of Guajara, the second highest peak after El Teide. To get there, we will do it starting from Granadilla along the C-821 road to Vilaflor, to continue later along a forest track that leads to the Madre del Agua camp. Soon we will find a beautiful path covered with lava that borders a ravine. It will take us an hour to walk to find the lunar landscape.
Important information about the tour:
· Start and finish: Plaza de Vilaflor de Chasna
· Length: approx. 13km
Average travel time: between 4 and 5 hours
Difficulty: medium
The path that takes us to the Escurriales rises steadily but without excessive unevenness through well-defined volcanic stone paths that contrast with the intense green of the Canarian pine forest. Signposted with numerous vertical indicators and red, yellow, and white paint marks, it is a good path to walk with the family in complete safety.
Soon we will reach our goal that stands out at the bottom of a ravine with its slender forms of white sand. Environmentally protected, it is recommended to observe it from afar, from the viewpoint.
The lunar landscape of Tenerife is a true gift from the volcanic nature of the island. Here are some photos of this incredible place.
